Lets Hear It For British Cheese

Read in the paper today that prisoners are no longer going to have to watch daytime TV in their cells. More evidence if it were needed that the government are going soft. I mean given the choice I'd rather break rocks on Dartmoor than have to watch repeats of bollocks like A Place in the Sun and Homes Under the Hammer over and over again with all those adverts for stairlifts. I watch a lot of TV but not that load of cobblers. If I want to watch and there's nothing decent on I stick on a video. Yesterday I watched Carry On Up The Jungle.

While we're on the subject I think we should do all we can to reduce the prison population. Bring back the birch. That'll make them think twice. As for serious criminals like robbers shoot the lot of them. They never learn so why bother banging them up? If we've not got the guts for that (and there's not a lot of guts around these days) then make them watch Location, Location, Location ALL DAY.

Here's a bit of Edmundo Ross. Come Closer to Me. If I had to do a stretch I wouldn't mind sticking her on the wall over my bunk:

Alison got very cross when she found out I'd fed the sandwiches to the dog. She said I was lucky he didn't have to go to the vet. I said in that case it was a good job I didn't eat them. Today she left me cheese and onion. Good old British Cheddar.

  1. Good point, Jim. My brother was banged up for a few years in an 'open prison', and in those days, they had 3 separate rooms for the 3 different T.V. channels, so there was no argument amongst inmates about what sort of punishment they wanted to endure.

(P.S. Could you get your I.T. expert to get rid of the bloody irritating 'word verification' thing on your blog? I have had 3 attempts to post this comment up now.)

  2. Two of three of my resident grandchildren adore cheese and onion sandwiches. Good old American Cheddar; the British is hard to come by. I thought they learned the combination from my brother-in-law. I cannot believe it's a common taste tickler.

    1. I have an American Friend here who works for the US government. He asked me if I wanted any 'Monterey Jack', because he gets it flown in special, like. I MEAN! - Cheddar is only 25 miles down the road!

  3. As I like oat cakes with Cheddar - and the posh KaDeWe in Berlin only sells the ones made by Prince Charles (tasty, but expensive) I bake them myself now. Quite good, I have to admit modestly.

  5. Nothing like a cheese and onion sandwich, especially Cheddar. Now Alison has discovered what you like, you'll get them on tap. I used to have to do sandwiches for O/H - he happened to say he liked cheese and beetroot, so for the next 6 months, I did cheese and beetroot butties in his box for him every day (well, I was working too) perhaps Alison is kinder than I am, she sounds kind.
